God's 300, mighty Men

300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy.

This is the seen where when the 300 where on their way to battle the meet up with Arcadina men coming to join the battle with the Spartan's.

King Leonidas to Daxos a Arcadian, complaining of the lack of Spartan soldiers stating he had only brought a hand full of men (his 300) compared to the much larger numbers of Arcadian he had brought to the battle.

King Leonidas pointed to the men that Daxos had with him....

Leonidas: You, what is your profession?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a potter, sir.
Leonidas: And you, Arcadian, what is your profession?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a sculptor.
Leonidas: And you?
Arcadian Soldier: I'm a blacksmith.
Leonidas: [Turning towards the Spartans] Spartans! What is your profession?
Spartans: Harooh! Harooh! Harooh! (300 Spartans scream together in deep thundering voices while lifting their spears in the air)
Leonidas: [Turning back to Daxos] See old friend, I brought more soldiers than you did.

These 300 where dedicated to their King, they where willing to go into battle against superior numbers, to go against hell its self for their King, give there lives for him. They would go into any battle no matter what the odds to fight beside their King, give every ounce of their strength to win any battle for Him, spend their abilities, strength and life for his cause. The others where split between other purpose in life, the Spartans where committed with their lives to the cause, the King, they where single minded towards the King and his battle, this is what God looks for in His people. They had passion, where men of passion, for their King.

Spartan Warriors possessed extraordinary strength, fearlessness, courage and where cunning. They would fight to the death for their family, king, and kingdom.  They were ruthless and without equal in their development and training. The meaning of Spartan was to be totally devoted to one cause, self-deprived, stripped down to the bare essentials, their King, his Kingdom and their families, their where undivided and courageous. They were trained to give their lives without hesitation. These warriors did not think anything about danger and always expected to win or die trying to win. They were feared men in battle.

And I asked myself what made these men the great warrior men they where, part of the reason is they were trained from a very young age to be fierce warriors, be dedicated to their King and his Kingdom, in other words they where raised by warrior men to be warrior men. It was ingrained into them from their youth, they where raised with knowledge of who they where and their calling, their single purpose was for their King.

When I read the scriptures I see this same calling for God's men, we find many fierce warriors who fought bravely like King David as one example, and a few more listed below. But in the scriptures we see believers being described as to have the same attributes.

But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. I Co 9:27

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. I Co 9:25

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 2 Tim 2:3-4

Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62

I seek to be warrior for the Kingdom of God such as where the Spartan Warriors in ancient Greece, to live with the same courageous strength, fearlessness and self-sacrificing dedication to the King and His cause. I seek to be such a man, a warrior like the Spartans , and King David. I am seeking to be one of God's 300, a warrior man of God, who as giving all my abilities, strength and life for Christ, to join in with such men who go into any battle with Him at any cost to themselves to fight the good fight, fight for the things of God. A Man of such passion, with a heart of a lion, the Lion of Judah for God and His causes, single minded towards God and the things of God. I seek to be a man: Who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously, totally devoted to one cause, Christ and His cause, even outo death.

These Spartan men need to buffet their bodies and keep their actions under control regarding women, children, money, alcohol, politics, and the things of this world.  God is seeking men who have a deep seeded desire to be warriors for Him and His causes, willing to face off with Goliaths, men who are willing to die for the cause of Christ, their family's, the weak, the downtrodden, those unable to fight for themselves.

The Spartan King had a vision, He had a conviction, and all the time he focused on what he wanted to do. He was willing to do whatever it took. He planned. He had passion. His passion was contagious. And his passion and convection spread life fire into His men, thereby he had 300 passionate men, just as King David had his might men who fought onto death with him for God and His kingdom. I wish to be such a man and fight beside such men, following my King Jesus into what every battle He leads me into. The battles are fought in earthly battlefields, some are fought in our minds, some on our knees, in temptations, in relationships, and in spiritual realms, but never the less our battles to the death of something, someone.

My God, The God of Israel is a warrior King

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. Rev 19:11- 15

And His men are passionate husbands and fathers, as we see in this video the King is a passionate lover, but yet a fearsome warrior.

What does a Warrior after God’s heart look like?

Several such Biblical heroes come to mind …  . . . who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, and from weakness were made strong.  Hebrews 11:33, 34

Samson a man who single handedly delivered Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, he is a powerfully inspiring example shown of how God can use a devoted but imperfect man to accomplish the most extraordinary and marvelous victories for those who love Him.He was a powerfully warrior who killed thousands with the jawbone of a donkey, he was fearless in the face of an over whelming enemy, even onto death. Despite Samson’s superhuman physical might, we still see his human frailties and how God turned those weaknesses for His glory. In him we will also see how a man chosen by God can make the worst mistakes, and still glorify God through the transforming and guiding power of the Holy Spirit. Oh, that I might have such a faith in God, that I would be willing to give up my life to accomplish His will. Judges 13-16

Joseph bloomed where he was planted.  The jealousy of his brothers and unjustified imprisonment did not deter Joseph from being faithful to God.  He rose to prominence in a foreign land, was used by God to rescue nations, and he chose to not take revenge on his brothers but rather to bless them.  Instead he loved them and took care of them.  Genesis 50:19-20

Uriah was a faithful and devoted soldier who chose to keep himself prepared for battle rather than enjoy the pleasures of this world.  He was dedicated to serving his king and Israel even when the king plotted to take his life.  He fought valiantly to the end.  His life was forfeited for another man’s desires. He was one of the band of David’s mighty men.  2 Samuel 11:11

Jonathan was a close friend of David.  Although he was the rightful heir to the throne of his father Saul he recognized that David was God’s anointed.  He defended and protected David at great peril to his own life.  He challenged the Philistines and trusted God for victory against great odds.  His courage, valor, and humility set him apart as a man after God’s heart.  1 Samuel 18:1

Joshua depended upon God even when it seemed hopeless. With God's help, Joshua and the people of Israel conquered mighty Jericho, the city no one else could defeat, and in unorthodox, untraditional way of dong things.  He was courageous to his last breadth.  Joshua was a great follower before he was a great leader.  He was Moses' right hand man and God's valiant warrior.  Joshua 1:8-9

Jeremiah told others what God wanted them to hear even when he was imprisoned for his faithfulness.  He was a mighty messenger of God to a disobedient and arrogant nation.  He was dumped into a muddy well because he spoke God’s message the people didn't’t like.  He did the right thing even when it was the hard thing to do.  Jeremiah 1:4-5

Daniel faced great pressure and opposition but never bent his knee to anyone or anything except God.  He risked his life for his beliefs and never faltered even when facing the hungry jaws of lions bent on making him their next meal.  He knew that following God was the more important than any threat to his life.  Daniel 6:21-22
